Cine Blitz – Most Trusted And Fair-Minded Bollywood Magazine
Cine Blitz is the most trusted and fair-minded Bollywood magazine. It was launched in 1975 by Russy Karanjia under Rifa Publications and publishers of the popular political weekly Blitz. Rita Mehta, daughter of Russy, was the first Editor-In-Chief of the magazine. Dr. Vijay Mallya acquired a 100% stake in Rifa Publications in the year 2001, and the name was changed to VJM Media Group. The group is a lifestyle and entertainment publication company in Mumbai, India, with interests in publishing and news media. 3 magazines were added to the group later on – Hi! Blitz, OK! India and Hi! Living. The current editor of the magazine is Nichola Pais.
Zeenat Aman appeared on the cover of the first issue of Cine Blitz magazine, which also contained pictures of Protima Bedi doing a streak run across Mumbai. This gave the magazine a flying start, but also caused quite a controversy. Rita Mehta approached Protima Bedi to do the streak run, first at Flora Fountain and then at Juhu Beach; these pictures ended up in the pages of the inaugural edition. The magazine later claimed that the naked run was originally shot in Goa and then the images were superimposed on images of Mumbai. However, the main reason for the controversy was to make popular the magazine; it then went on to become one of India’s leading film and gossip magazines.
With a tag line saying that it was the “C to Z of Hindi Films – Everyone covers AB,” it showed its rather tongue-in-cheek attitude. The aim of the magazine is to capture the essence of Hindi cinema, the stars and their lives. Right from the time of its launch till date, it has been blitzing a trail of excitement for years on end, captivating its readers with the best of engrossing content that is also informative. In 2003, the magazine went international and launched the US and UK editions, and in 2006, Rita Mehta stepped down as editor and was replaced by Nishi Prem, the former Editor of Stardust.
